UMass student wins security competition

The Advanced Cyber Security Center — a New England consortium of university, industry, and government leaders focused on meeting cyber security challenges — this month named University of Massachusetts Amherst PhD student Georg T. Becker of as the winner of its "Best Cyber Security Solution" competition.

Becker is a PhD student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UMass-Amherst, and won a $1,000 award for his research entitled "Side-channel based watermarks for embedded devices" — which is focused on cost-effective technology to block product piracy and IP theft through side-channel based watermarks.
