Advanced Cyber Security Center appoints Figueroa new executive director

December 1, 2016

The Advanced Cyber Security Center (ACSC), a Massachusetts-based consortium dedicated to promoting best practices and threat sharing in cyber defense, has appointed Michael Figueroa to become the ACSC’s new executive director, effective Nov. 28.

“Michael brings to this role significant experience and a reputation for high performance in a variety of senior cybersecurity positions,” said ACSC Search Committee Chair Ken Montgomery, First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Mr. Figueroa’s most recent position was at Draper Labs where he was the Innovations & Services Lead for Cyber Systems, serving as the business operations lead for incubation of the Dover Inherently Secure Processor.  His other past roles include Senior Research Engineer at BAE Systems, Senior Vice President at InfusionPoints, and CISO at IXI Corporation.

Mr. Figueroa received his Bachelor of Science from MIT in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, and his Master of Forensic Science from George Washington University, with a focus on Incident Response.  He has spoken and published articles on cybersecurity issues. Figueroa replaces Charlie Benway, who left in April to lead the Massachusetts Innovation Bridge.

The search process included conducting a Strategic Assessment to identify the community’s needs and priorities going forward.  William Guenther, ACSC Board Chair said that “Michael is well-equipped to implement our Strategic Assessment and build upon our past achievements to take the organization to the next level.”
